About Yan Lipao
Yan Lipao basketry is a traditional Thai Handcraft, which dates back as far as the early Rattanakosin
dynasty (150 years ago).
Thanks to the interest and support of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand,
it’s popularity continues to the present day.
Yothaka International were inspired by this prestigious history to create a brand new limited edition
furniture line from Yan Lipao.
Each piece is made by hand over a 45 to 60 day period by only the most skilled craftsmen.
Yan Lipao is a fern vine that grows abundantly only in the forests of southern Thailand. This vine, which
has an average diameter of 2–3mm, is naturally available in shades from dark to light brown which are
woven together to create the final effect.
The vine once collected is peeled, the outer part stripped from the pith and hung to dry naturally in the
shade.
The dried Lipao is then polished and smoothed out before the weaving process begins.
